GENESEO, N.Y. – Senior guard/forward
Bella DePasquale (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) scored 18 points in the Plattsburgh State women's basketball 82-65 loss to No. 20 Geneseo Saturday evening inside the Carl Schrader Gymnasium.
Plattsburgh State is now 3-6 overall and 0-4 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) while Geneseo remains undefeated and moves to 10-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference.
DePasquale was 6-12 in three-pointers and recorded four assists, four rebounds and two steals as well.
Freshmen forward
Ly'rell Walker (Yonkers, N.Y. / Roosevelt) scored 15 points, picked up eight rebounds and had four assists.
Junior guard/forward
Taylor Durnin (Lyon Mountain, N.Y. / Northern Adirondack) had nine points, four rebounds and four assists.
Geneseo started the game with a layup and Walker countered to tie the game.
A three-pointer from DPasquale gave the Cardinals the lead and the Knights put in their own three followed by a layup.
A layup by freshmen forward
Kayla Doody (Troy, N.Y. / Tamarac) and another three from DePasquale gave Plattsburgh State a one-point edge.
After a scoreless three minutes, Geneseo put in a layup and two free throws for a three point cushion.
Walker put in a layup with 1:07 left in the quarter but the Knights ended the quarter with a three-pointer to head into the second up 16-12.
Geneseo out-scored Plattsburgh State 22-9 in the second to head into halftime up 38-21.
The Cardinals rallied in the third quarter, out-scoring the Knights 27-18.
At the 4:08 mark DePasquale put in another three followed by Durnin with a layup and Walker with a jumper to cut the lead to 12 points.
DePasquale and Durnin ended the quarter with back-to-back threes to head into the final quarter only down by eight points, 56-48.
The Knights had their highest scoring quarter in the fourth with 26 points compared to the Cardinals 17.
Geneseo out-rebounded Plattsburgh State 35-32 and each team recorded nine steals.
The Cardinals scored 19 points off the Knights 14 turnovers while they scored 23 points off 18 turnovers.
Plattsburgh State returns to the court Wednesday, Dec. 19, to play Babson College at 11 a.m. in the Exclusive Invitational in Miami, Fla.
