BROCKPORT, N.Y. – In an epic nail-biting thriller, senior forward
Isaiah Hill (Brooklyn, N.Y./HS for Dual Language and Asian Studies) double-doubled with a career high 18 rebounds and 14 points in the No. 10 Plattsburgh State men's basketball 79-78 loss to The College at Brockport Friday night inside Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
Senior guard/forward
Chris Middleton (New York, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) led the Cardinals with 19 points and picked up nine rebounds.
Senior forward
Jonathan Patron (Huntington, N.Y. / Harborfields) scored 16 points along with three assists.
Junior forward
Adam Jaquish (Moriah, N.Y./Moriah) recorded eight points and eight rebounds.
Middleton started the game with a jumper and the Golden Eagles quickly tied the game.
Four minutes in Patron put in a jumper followed by a layup from senior guard
Brandon Johnson (Greenburgh, N.Y./Woodlands) and a jumper by Jaquish for a nine-point edge.
Brockport drained a three-pointer and Jaquish put in a layup and a jumper for a ten-point cushion.
With 8:44 left the Golden Eagles came within two points of the lead.
Hill put in two layups followed by two free throws from senior forward
Ian Howard (Queens, N.Y./Springfield Gardens) for an eight-point edge.
An old-fashioned three-pointer by sophomore guard
Travis Cox (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Frederick Douglass Academy) gave the Cardinals their largest lead of 11 points with 3:27 remaining in the first half.
Brockport finished the half out-scoring Plattsburgh State 8-2 to head into halftime down 42-37.
The Golden Eagles started the second half with a seven-point run to take a two-point lead.
Middleton tied the game 44-44 and Brockport went on a nine-point bender.
The Golden Eagles put in two three-pointers for a 13-point advantage with 12:30 left.
Hill, Patron and Jaquish all put in layups for the Cardinals to come within seven points of the lead.
A layup and free throw by Middleton, a three-pointer by junior guard
Nick DeAngelis (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) and a jumper and free throw from Patron gave Plattsburgh State the lead back, 72-70, with 3:40 remaining in the game.
The game was tied four more times and the lead changed three times before Brockport put in one free throw in the final two seconds to end the excitement and hand Plattsburgh State their first loss of the season.
Plattsburgh State out-rebounded Brockport 59-41 and shot 86.7% in free throws.
The Cardinals will continue SUNYAC play on Saturday as they head to Geneseo for a 4 p.m. start.
