PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Three Plattsburgh State women's basketball players scored in double digits in their 80-70 loss to Middlebury Tuesday night inside Memorial Hall.
The Cardinals fall to 3-4 overall while Middlebury remains undefeated and move to 7-0.
Junior guard/forward
Taylor Durnin (Lyon Mountain, N.Y. / Northern Adirondack) scored 18 points, senior guard/forward
Bella DePasquale (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) had 15 and freshman forward
Kelly Degnan (Irvington, N.Y. / Irvington) had 12.
DePasquale started the game with a three-pointer and Durnin scored her own minutes later for a 6-2 lead.
A layup by Degnan halfway through the first quarter gave the Cardinals a six-point edge.
The Panthers took a one-point lead with 2:50 left and ended the quarter with a three-pointer for a 19-15 advantage.
The Cardinals out-scored the Panthers 19-17 in the second quarter.
Middlebury had a seven-point edge with 1:18 left in the quarter and Durnin drained a three followed by two free throws from sophomore forward
Mary McKenna (Hauppauge, N.Y. / Hauppauge) to head into halftime down 36-34.
The Panthers had a nine-point advantage at the 7:51 mark and the Cardinals tied the game 45-45 after a three-pointer from DePasquale, a steal, layup and free throw from freshmen forward
Ly'rell Walker (Yonkers, N.Y. / Roosevelt) and a three-pointer from Durnin.
Another three from DePasquale gave the Cardinals a two-point edge but the Panthers tied it 57-57 with 1:54 left in the quarter and scored five points to end it for a 62-57 lead.
Middlebury out-scored Plattsburgh State 18-13 in the final quarter to take the ten-point win.
The Panthers out-rebounded the Cardinals 33-17. Each team recorded 14 assists and 16 turnovers.
Plattsburgh State returns to SUNYAC play Friday when they head to the College at Brockport for a 5:30 p.m. tip off.
