PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Four Cardinals score in double digits in the No. 10 Plattsburgh State men's basketball 92-83 win over No. 18 Middlebury Tuesday night inside Memorial Hall.
Plattsburgh State remains undefeated and moves to 7-0 overall while Middlebury falls to 5-2.
Senior forward
Jonathan Patron (Huntington, N.Y. / Harborfields) double-doubled with 31 points and 12 rebounds and added three assists.
Junior guard
Nick DeAngelis (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) came off the bench to score 17 points, senior forward
Isaiah Hill (Brooklyn, N.Y./HS for Dual Language and Asian Studies) scored 12 points and senior guard/forward
Chris Middleton (New York, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) had 11 points.
Middlebury took control early but the Cardinals kept pace. The first half was tied seven times and the lead changed 11 times.
A three-pointer form Patron put Plattsburgh State up one point four minutes in but Middlebury put in their own three for a two-point lead.
The Cardinals went on a seven-point run for a five-point cushion.
Junior forward
Adam Jaquish (Moriah, N.Y./Moriah) put in a layup, Middleton made two free throws and a three-pointer.
Middlebury tied the game 18-18 at the 12:35 mark and by the 7:49 mark Plattsburgh State had a six point edge.
The game was tied 32-32 with five minutes remaining and the Panthers and Cardinals traded off the lead seven more times until it was tied 41-41 with under one minute left.
A free throw by Jaquish put the Cardinals up by one point at halftime.
The second half was tied five times and the lead changed four times before Plattsburgh State took and kept it with two three-pointer by DeAngelis.
Two free throws from senior guard
Brandon Johnson (Greenburgh, N.Y./Woodlands) and one from senior forward
Ian Howard (Queens, N.Y./Springfield Gardens) put the Cardinals up by seven at the 8:22 mark.
Plattsburgh State took their largest lead of 10 points with 1:50 remaining in the game after a three-pointer from Patron and a layup by Hill.
Middlebury drained a three and Patron finished the game with two free throws for the nine-point win.
The Cardinals out-rebounded the Panthers 49-39 with Middleton, Jaquish and Howard all recording eight.
Plattsburgh State logged 16 assists to Middlebury's 10 with Johnson having five and Middleton with three. Johnson also picked up three blocks.
The Cardinals are on the road Friday to return to SUNAYC play against The College at Brockport at 7:30 p.m.
