PLATTSBRUGH, N.Y. – The No. 13 Plattsburgh State men's basketball team remain undefeated and recorded their sixth straight win Saturday evening when they beat Oneonta 84-69 in Memorial Hall.
Plattsburgh State is now 6-0 on the season and 2-0 to start SUNYAC play while Oneonta falls to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Senior forward
Jonathan Patron (Huntington, N.Y. / Harborfields) picked up his third double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds and added five assists.
Senior guards
Brandon Johnson (Greenburgh, N.Y./Woodlands) and
Chris Middleton (New York, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) each scored 15 points. Middleton had six rebounds while Johnson had seven assists and three steals.
Patron started the game with a layup and a three-pointer.
Four minutes in the Red Dragons tied the game 7-7 and took the lead one minute later.
A layup from Middleton and Howard put the Cardinals back in control.
A Red Dragons jumper switched the lead again but a three-pointer and free throw from Patron switched it back.
At the 9:40 mark, Plattsburgh State went on a seven-point run for a nine-point lead.
Junior forward
Adam Jaquish (Moriah, N.Y./Moriah) put in a layup followed by a dunk from Johnson and a three-pointer from Patron.
With 3:36 remaining in the first half Oneonta tied the game 32-32.
Johnson put in a jumper and the Red Dragons countered with a basket to tie it again, 34-34.
Two free throws from Middleton bailed out the Cardinals and they headed into halftime up 36-34.
Oneonta put up a good fight in the beginning of the second half only allowing the Cardinals to maintain a reachable lead.
With 5:39 remaining Plattsburgh State went on an eight point run to take a 20-point cushion.
Middleton made a three, Patron put in a free throw, Middleton had a jumper followed by Patron with a layup.
The Cardinals took their largest lead of 23 points with 2:19 left.
Oneonta finished the game with two three-pointers and a layup to cut the Cardinals win to 15 points.
Plattsburgh State out-rebounded Oneonta 39-22 and shot 85.6 percent from the free throw line.
The Cardinals are home Tuesday, Dec. 4, to host No. 12 Middlebury at 7:30 p.m.
