PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Freshman forward
Kelly Degnan (Irvington, N.Y. / Irvington) recorded a career high of 16 points and picked up eight rebounds in the Plattsburgh State women's basketball 72-57 loss to Oneonta Saturday evening inside Memorial Hall gymnasium.
Plattsburgh State falls to 3-2 overall and 0-2 in the SUNYAC while Oneonta moves to 5-1, 2-0 in the conference.
Junior guard/forward
Taylor Durnin (Lyon Mountain, N.Y. / Northern Adirondack) recorded 11 points, sophomore guard
Theresa Quinn (Cromwell, Conn. / Cromwell) had eight and freshmen forwards
Ly'rell Walker (Yonkers, N.Y. / Roosevelt) had seven.
Durnin started the game with two free throws after Onetona was served with a technical foul.
Senior guard/forward
Bella DePasquale (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) drained a three-pointer to put the Cardinals up 5-0.
Oneonta took the lead at the 6:04 mark in the first quarter and Walker's layup tied the game 9-9.
The Red Dragons made two baskets and the Cardinals countered with a layup and a jumper from Quinn to tie it again, 13-13.
Oneonta put in two more baskets and Quinn made a layup to end the quarter for the Cardinals to only trail 17-15.
Durnin started the second quarter with a three-pointer and Quinn made a layup for a three point lead.
The second quarter was tied four more times with the lead changing three times until Oneonta ended the quarter with a five point run to head into halftime up 36-32.
Oneonta out-scored Plattsburgh State 19-11 in the third quarter and 17-14 in the fourth and took their largest lead of 18 points with 4:28 left in the game.
The Red Dragons out-rebounded the Cardinals 36-27.
Plattsburgh State is home Tuesday, Dec. 4, to host Middlebury at 5:30 p.m.
