PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Freshman forward
Kirsten Villemaire (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) scored twice in the Plattsburgh State women's soccer 3-1 win over Oswego to help them capture their first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory of the season Friday evening at the Field House Complex.
Plattsburgh State improves to 7-5 overall and 1-3 in the SUNYAC while Oswego falls to 4-4-2 and 1-2-1 in the conference.
The Cardinals scored all three goals in the second half with the first two coming 64 seconds apart.
The first came at the 71:38 mark when junior midfielder
Sarah Bonner (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) launched the ball from just inside the midfield to freshman forward
Allison Seidman (Commack, N.Y. / Commack) who then sent it over to junior forward
Katie Matott (Rouses Point, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) for her fifth goal of the season.
The next goal came at the 72:42 mark when junior midfielder
Vina Nguyen (Shelburne, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) took the ball from midfield and passed it down the right side where Villemaire intercepted it, went around the keeper and put it in the bottom right corner.
Oswego scored in the 81st minute off a rebound to cut the Cardinals lead in half.
With 49 seconds remaining Matott won the ball, passed it to Seidman who was open on the left side and crossed it to Villemaire to put it in the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season.
Plattsburgh State out-shot Oswego 30-14.
Graduate goalkeeper
Taylor Adams (Schenectady, N.Y./Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) recorded seven saves while the Lakers keeper made 10.
The Cardinals are home Saturday, Oct. 6, at 1 p.m. to host SUNYAC foe Cortland.
