GENESEO, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's volleyball team fell twice to close out its State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) schedule Saturday at SUNY Geneseo's Schrader Gymnasium, dropping a 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-23) decision to Fredonia before falling to SUNY New Paltz, 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-13).
Plattsburgh State drops to 6-21 overall (1-8 SUNYAC) with the results and wraps up its regular season on Saturday, Oct. 27, when it visits The Sage Colleges for a tri-match. The Cardinals face host Sage at 11 a.m. before taking on Lehman College at 1 p.m. Fredonia and New Paltz rise to 17-8 overall (6-2 SUNYAC) and 23-5 overall (8-1 SUNYAC), respectively, with the wins.
Fredonia 3, Plattsburgh State 0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-13)
The Cardinals limited Fredonia to .165 hitting in the first match of the day, but the Blue Devils came out on top thanks in part to holding the upper hand in service aces (11-2) and digs (44-40). Both teams finished with three blocks.
Junior outside hitter
Megan Hyde (Schenectady, N.Y./Schalmont) floored eight kills to lead Plattsburgh State, while freshman setter/opposite
Lauren DeVoe (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) dished out 15 assists. Hyde also helped the back row defensively with 12 digs.
For Fredonia, junior outside hitter SallyAnne Rudny led the way with 10 kills, while junior setter Amanda Mosack helped the offense run with 28 assists. Senior opposite Kailey Falk nearly posted a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs.
New Paltz 3, Plattsburgh State 0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-13)
New Paltz used an efficient .271 hitting percentage to emerge victorious in the nightcap. The Hawks also outgained the Cardinals in service aces (5-3), blocks (3-2) and digs (54-42).
Sophomore middle blocker
Michelle Simmons (Riverside, Calif./Riverside Poly) landed six kills to key the Cardinal attack, while DeVoe distributed 14 assists. Defensively, sophomore defensive specialist
Maddy Zophy (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) defended 12 digs, while freshman middle blocker/opposite
Tara McGovern (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) recorded two solo blocks.
Sophomore outside hitter Julie Greenspan led three Hawks in double-digit kill figures with 11. Sophomore middle hitter Demi Herasme and junior middle hitter Kerri Neville floored 10 kills apiece, while junior outside hitter Madison Van Pelt reinforced the back row defensively with 16 digs.
