BUFFALO, N.Y. – Sophomore forward
Taylor Clare (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) recorded a double double Friday night in the Plattsburgh State women's basketball 58-52 win over Buffalo State inside Buffalo State Sports Arena.
Plattsburgh State improves to 4-7 overall and 3-2 in the SUNYAC while Buffalo State moves to 5-6 and 2-3 in the conference.
Clare put up 10 points and a team high 12 rebounds. Junior guard
Anna Thompson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Spackenkill) led the Cardinals with 15 points and picked up seven rebounds while sophomore guard/forward
Taylor Durnin (Lyon Mountain, N.Y. / Northern Adirondack) also scored in double digits with 11 points.
Plattsburgh State held Buffalo State to only five points in the first quarter and went on a seven point run three minutes in to take the lead. Thompson made a layup, junior guard/forward
Bella DePasquale (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) drained a three and Clare made a layup to take a 9-3 edge.
The Bengals made two free throws with two minutes remaining in the first quarter but sophomore guard
Brooke Benna (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) made a three and Durnin made one free throw to take a 13-5 advantage after the first quarter.
Buffalo State out-scored Plattsburgh State 10-9 in the second quarter but the Cardinals headed into halftime up 22-15.
The Bengals tied the game 30-30 with 3:24 left in the third and went on a seven point binge to take a five point lead.
With 45 second remaining in the third Buffalo State had a seven point advantage but Plattsburgh State was able to cut it two five with two free throws by Durnin.
The Cardinals rallied in the fourth quarter going on a seven point spree two minutes in; Clare put in a jumper and two free throws and Thompson tied it with a three-pointer.
The Bengals put in one free throw to take a one point edge and the Cardinals drained two threes from Thompson and Durnin to lead 47-42 with 4:21 left.
Buffalo State cut Plattsburgh States lead to three but DePasquale drained a three and Thompson made two free throws to take an eight point advantage. The Bengals cut the lead to four but two more free throws from Thompson gave the Cardinals their six point victory.
The Cardinals are on the road Saturday at Fredonia to play a conference game at 1 p.m.
