PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.- The Plattsburgh State men's basketball team conquered SUNY Canton Tuesday night inside Memorial Hall with a 88-58 conquest to move to 15-4 overall as the Kangaroos fall to 7-14.
Junior forward
Jonathan Patron (Huntington, N.Y. / Harborfields) double-doubled with 20 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Cardinals. Senior guard
Tim Smith (Melbourne, Australia/Impact Academy) scored 15 points while sophomore guard
Nick DeAngelis (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) and senior guard
Eric Mack (Roosevelt, N.Y./Baldwin) each had 10 points and three rebounds.
The Cardinals recorded 86.4% from the free throw line, Smith going 5-5 and Patron and Mack each shooting 4-4.
The game was tied 8-8 six minutes into the first half when Plattsburgh State went on a 15 point run.
Junior guard
Brandon Johnson (Greenburgh, N.Y./Woodlands) started it off with a three-pointer, junior forward
Ian Howard (Queens, N.Y./Springfield Gardens) put in a layup, Mack had a layup, Johnson made a jumper, Mack made two free throws, sophomore forward
Adam Jaquish (Moriah, N.Y./Moriah) put in a layup and Patron finished it with a jumper.
The Kangaroos made a layup and the Cardinals went on a nine point spree. Patron had a layup, DeAngelis drained a three, junior forward
Isaiah Hill (Brooklyn, N.Y./HS for Dual Language and Asian Studies) made a jumper and Patron made another layup to take a 34-12 advantage with 4:53 left in the first half.
Canton cut the Cardinals lead to 21 points and Plattsburgh State ended the half with a three pointer from Hill followed by a layup from Patron to head into halftime up 50-26.
Plattsburgh State only out-scored Canton by four points in the second half (38-34) but took their largest lead of 32 points with 1:39 remaining after freshmen guard
Pascal Klaehn (Heidelberg, Germany / Dietrich Bonhoeffer) made two free throws to record his first collegiate points.
Canton ended the game with a layup to cut the Cardinals win to 30 points.
Plattsburgh State is back home on Friday, Feb. 2, to resume SUNYAC play as they host Oswego State at 7:30 p.m.
