ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's basketball team completed the weekend sweep with a 97-60 win over Oneonta Saturday afternoon inside Alumni Field House to improve to 14-4 overall and 12-1 in the SUNYAC while the Red Dragons move to 11-7 and 705 in the conference.
Senior guard
Eric Mack (Roosevelt, N.Y./Baldwin) double-doubled with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Senior guard
Eli Bryant (Staten Island, N.Y./Michael J. Petrides School) recorded 21 points, junior forward
Jonathan Patron (Huntington, N.Y. / Harborfields) scored 19 and sophomore guard
Nick DeAngelis (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) had 10 while senior guard
Zack Coleman (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) picked up eight assists.
The Cardinals shot 51.9% from beyond the arc and 83.3% from the free throw line. Both Bryant and Patron were 3-5 in three-pointers.
Plattsburgh State held Oneonta to 22 points in the first half compared to their 46. The Red Dragons had a one point lead one minute in but the Cardinals quickly took and kept it the rest of the game.
Oneonta kept pace for most of the first only trailing by five with 9:47 left when the Cardinals went on a 17 point run.
Bryant put in a layup and a jumper, junior guard
Brandon Johnson (Greenburgh, N.Y./Woodlands) drained a three, Mack made two layups, Bryant made two three-pointers.
Bryant ended the half with another layup to put Plattsburgh State up by 24 points at halftime.
Oneonta managed to score 38 points in the second half and were able to cut the Cardinals advantage to 19 points with 3:20 remaining in the game.
Plattsburgh State took their largest lead of 37 points after they went on an 18 point spree to end the game.
Senior guard
Tim Smith (Melbourne, Australia/Impact Academy) drained a three followed by Mack with a three-pointer and Smith with another three. Sophomore forward
Adam Jaquish (Moriah, N.Y./Moriah) made a layup and a free throw, freshman guard
Travis Cox (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Frederick Douglass Academy) finished it with a layup, a jumper and another layup.
Plattsburgh State is back home Tuesday, Jan. 30, to host SUNY Canton at 7 p.m.
