NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Junior forward
Jonathan Patron (Huntington, N.Y. / Harborfields) scored his 1000th point in the Plattsburgh State men's basketball 100-71 triumph over New Paltz for their 10th sequential win Friday night inside Hawks Center.
Plattsburgh State improves to 13-4 overall and 11-1 in the SUNYAC while New Paltz moves to 6-12 and 3-8 in the conference.
Patron recorded his sixth double-double in nine games with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard
Eli Bryant (Staten Island, N.Y./Michael J. Petrides School) came off the bench and scored 18 points, junior guard
Brandon Johnson (Greenburgh, N.Y./Woodlands) had 14, senior guard
Eric Mack (Roosevelt, N.Y./Baldwin) put up 12 while junior guard/forward
Chris Middleton (New York, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) scored nine point and grabbed 10 rebounds.
New Paltz had a nine point lead five minutes into the first half. The Cardinals went on an 16 point run with 11:59 left in the first half. Bryant made a free throw, Middleton made two free throws, Bryant had a jumper, Mack had a dunk and a free throw, Johnson drained a three and made a layup and Bryant finished it off with a three-pointer to take a 30-22 advantage.
The Hawks tied the game 38-38 with 4:42 remaining in the first half and the Cardinals went on a six point spree. Johnson had a jumper and Patron made two jumpers.
New Paltz put in a jumper of their own and Johnson made a free throw followed by a jumper and free throw from sophomore guard
Nick DeAngelis (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) to take an eight point edge.
The Hawks ended the half with a layup and Plattsburgh State headed into halftime up 48-42.
The Cardinals came out hard in the second half out-scoring the Hawks 52-29 and taking their largest lead of 31 points with a three-pointer from sophomore guard
Jeremy Eisenman (New York, N.Y./NEST+m) to score their 100th point with 1:56 remaining.
New Paltz was able to make two free throws before the game ended to cut Plattsburgh State's win to 29 points.
Plattsburgh State out-shot New Paltz 49.3% - 38.4% and out-rebounded the Hawks 49-45.
The Cardinals visit SUNY Oneonta on Saturday to continue SUNYAC play with a 3 p.m. tip off.
