POTSDAM, N.Y. – Four Plattsburgh State men's basketball players scored in double digits Tuesday night to aid the Cardinals in their 99-55 landslide over Potsdam inside Jerry Welsh Gymnasium to increase their win streak to nine games.
Plattsburgh State improve to to 12-4 overall and 10-1 in the SUNYAC while Potsdam falls to 8-10 and 3-8 in the conference.
Senior guard
Eli Bryant (Staten Island, N.Y./Michael J. Petrides School) came off the bench to lead the Cardinals with 18 points including going 6-6 from the free throw line. Junior forward
Jonathan Patron (Huntington, N.Y. / Harborfields) double-doubled with 17 points and 11 rebounds, sophomore guard
Nick DeAngelis (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) and junior guard
Brandon Johnson (Greenburgh, N.Y./Woodlands) each had 11 points.
Potsdam led 5-2 three minutes into the game when the Cardinals went on a nine point run. Patron put in a layup, DeAngelis drained a three, junior guard/forward
Chris Middleton (New York, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) made a layup as did Patron to take a six point edge.
The Cardinals went on a ten point binge to take a 23 point lead with 4:43 left in the first half. Johnson made a three-pointer, DeAngelis made a jumper, Bryant drained a three and Patron put in a layup.
Plattsburgh State was able to maintain the 23 point advantage the remainder of the half and headed into halftime up 43-20.
The Cardinals started off the second half with a seven point spree. Patron put in a layup, senior guard
Zack Coleman (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) made a three-pointer and Patron made another layup to take a 30 point cushion.
Plattsburgh State took their largest lead of 46 points with 4:28 left in the game and ended up winning by 44 points.
The Cardinals out-rebounded the Bears 52-34 with Patron having 11 and junior forward
Ian Howard (Queens, N.Y./Springfield Gardens) grabbing 10. Plattsburgh State shot 86.7% from the free throw line compared to Potsdam's 54.2%.
Plattsburgh State is on the road Friday, Jan. 26, to play New Paltz at 7:30 p.m.
