PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Despite leading by one point at halftime the Plattsburgh State women's basketball team dropped an 81-67 decision to The College at Brockport inside Memorial Hall Saturday evening.
Plattsburgh State is now 5-11 and 4-6 in the SUNYAC while Brockport moved to 7-10 overall, 5-5 in the conference.
Four Cardinals recorded double digits in scoring to record a combined 44 points. Sophomore forward
Taylor Clare (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) recorded 12 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks, sophomore forward
Frannie Merkel (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) had 11 points and eight rebounds, junior guard/forward
Bella DePasquale (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) also had 11 points and sophomore guard
Christina Testa (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Oyster Bay) had ten points.
The Cardinals were up 13-7 six minutes into the game but the Golden Eagles were able to cut the lead to two points with two free throws and tied it 14-14 with a layup with 1:18 left. Junior guard
Anna Thompson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Spackenkill) drained a three with 50 seconds left but Brockport was able to make a layup before the quarter ended.
Each team recorded 18 points in the second quarter with the game being tied three times and the lead changing four times putting the halftime score at 35-34 in favor of Plattsburgh State.
Brockport came into the third quarter with a second wind taking the lead from the start and out-scoring Plattsburgh State 26-17.
The Cardinals tied the game 40-40 after Clare put in a jumper and a layup and Merkel made a free throw.
The Golden eagles took an eight point edge with 2:46 left in the third and DePasquale drained a three to come within five.
Brockport put in their own three-pointer with seven seconds left to take a 60-52 advantage heading into the final quarter.
Plattsburgh State came within one point of the lead after another three from DePasquale and two free throws from sophomore guard

The Golden Eagles drained back-to-back three's to take a seven point edge. Merkel cut it to five with a layup but Brockport made another three to push it up to eight. They took their largest lead of 14 points with 23 second left after putting in a layup and four free throws to end the game.
Brockport recorded 10-18 from behind the arc and were 81.3% in free throws off 16 Plattsburgh fouls.
The Cardinals are away Tuesday, Jan. 23, to take on Potsdam with a 5:30 p.m. tip off.
