Cardinals Top Geneseo 79-73 To Win Seventh Straight Game

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's basketball team logged their seventh straight win after beating Geneseo 79-73 Friday night inside Memorial Hall to improve to 10-4 overall and 8-1 in the SUNYAC while the Knights move to 8-8, 5-4 in the conference.

The Cardinal trio of junior forward Jonathan Patron (Huntington, N.Y. / Harborfields) and senior guards Eli Bryant (Staten Island, N.Y./Michael J. Petrides School) and Eric Mack (Roosevelt, N.Y./Baldwin) scored a combined 55 points. Patron tallied his fourth double-double of the season, third consecutive, with 20 points, 11 rebounds and added four steals. Bryant scored 18 points and Mack recorded 17 points, eight rebounds and had four blocks.

Geneseo had an 11-6 advantage when Patron tied the game with a three-pointer and a layup then made a jumper to take a two point edge.

The Knights tied it then made two free throws and a layup to lead by four. Mack drained a three, junior forward Ian Howard (Queens, N.Y./Springfield Gardens) put in a layup and junior guard/forward Chris Middleton (New York, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) made a layup to give the Cardinals a three point advantage.

The game was tied two more times before Plattsburgh State took and kept the lead and headed into halftime up 32-27 thanks to a jumper by junior guard Brandon Johnson (Greenburgh, N.Y./Woodlands) and a layup from Mack.

The Knights started the second half off with a layup but Middleton and Bryant each made baskets to take a seven point edge. They had a ten point cushion four minutes in with layups by Howard and Bryant.

Plattsburgh State took their largest lead of 13 points with 11:31 remaining with a dunk and layup from Mack.

Geneseo came within five points with 1:12 left and four points with nine second remaining. Two free throws from Bryant ended the game and gave the Cardinals their six point victory.

Plattsburgh State is home Saturday, Jan. 20 to host The College at Brockport at 3 p.m. and will hold their annual Meet the Cardinals autograph session after their game.
