PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team opened the season with a 2-0 win over Castleton University Friday night at the Field House Soccer Complex.
Senior
Madeline Saccocio (Schenectady, N.Y. / Schalmont) netted both Cardinal goals within six minutes of one another. Her first came in the 15
th minute off a cross from
Ernesta McIntosh (Lincoln, Vt. / Mt. Abraham) and scored in the bottom left corner from inside the box.
Saccocio's second goal came in the 21
st minute off a throw in that fed the ball to
Cait Gagen (East Syracuse, N.Y. / East Syracuse-Minoa) on the right side which caused a scramble between Gagen and the keeper. Gagen took control of the ball and crossed it over for Saccocio to put it in the top left corner.
The Cardinals out shot the Spartans 20-8 for the contest.

Nichole Gibson (Arkport, N.Y. / Arkport) recorded her first shutout of the season making five saves in her 90 minutes of play.
Plattsburgh State is now 1-0 to start the year and will have the rest of the weekend to rest before its next game on Tuesday night against Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
