BUFFALO, N.Y. – Plattsburgh State senior
Camille Leonard (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Jr. Hornets) set the NCAA Division III career wins record as the top-ranked Cardinal women's ice hockey team beat nationally-regarded Buffalo State College, 3-0, in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's West action at the BSC Ice Arena on Friday. Plattsburgh State, now a winner in 17 straight games, goes to 23-1 overall and 16-1 in the league, while Buffalo State is 16-7-1 and 11-6. Both teams are polled according to the latest Division III national rankings.
Leonard recorded her 70th career win, which broke a tie with former teammate Sydney Aveson' 14 for the NCAA Division III and Plattsburgh State career victories record. Aveson went 69-8-5 between 2010 and 2014 for the Cardinals, while Leonard currently sits at 70-4.

Courtney Moriarty (Estero, Fla./Northfield Mount Hermon) had one goal and one assist, with senior
Melissa Ames (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsburgh Penguins Elite U-19) and junior
Melissa Sheeran (Schaghticoke, N.Y./Millbrook School) also scoring. Junior
Megan Crandell (Fullerton, Calif./Saint Norbert) dished two assists, while senior
Erin Brand (Long Beach, N.Y./Syracuse), sophomore Elizabeth Viola (Williamsville, N.Y./Buffalo Bisons U-19) and freshman
Hannah Kiraly (Newport Beach, Calif./Northern Cyclones) each providing one helper. Leonard logged a 25-save shutout for her sixth clean sheet of the season and the 29th of her career.
Buffalo State junior Brooke Krantz won seven faceoffs, while sophomore Emma Ruggiero was 5-of-7 on draws. Junior Justine Silva stopped 37 shots in net.
Both sides went scoreless in the first period as Plattsburgh State led shots, 14-3. The visitors broke out with two second-period goals, though. Ames netted a power-play goal at 7:03 after deflecting Crandell's point shot. Sheeran added to the lead by deking past a Bengal defender and ripping a shot into the upper right corner at 16:02. Moriarty capped the Cardinals' scoring at 6:51 in the third period when she picked up the loose puck in a scramble and punched home the score into the right side.
The Cardinals and Bengals both close their regular season at 2 p.m. tomorrow. Plattsburgh State has already locked up the conference's regular-season title and will have a first-round bye and home-ice advantage in the six-team postseason tournament. Buffalo State meanwhile sits at third in the standings with Oswego State and Utica College just one point behind.
