Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's basketball team suffered a 73-45 loss to SUNY Geneseo Saturday afternoon inside the Louise Kuhl Gymnasium to fall to 2-6 overall and 2-2 in the SUNYAC while Geneseo improves to 8-1, 4-0 in the conference.
The Knights jumped to an early lead taking a 17-6 edge after the first quarter and kept the game in their favor thanks largely to shooting 42.1% from beyond the arc and 53.1% in free throws.
Junior guard/forward
Bella DePasquale (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) started the second quarter with a jumper and the Knights retaliated with an 11 point spree.
Plattsburgh State ended the quarter with a seven point run of their own starting with a layup by freshman forward
Jordan Kastanis (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Roy C. Ketcham) then a layup from freshman guard
Thersea Quinn (Cromwell, Conn. / Cromwell), Kastanis with a free throw and sophomore forward
Taylor Clare (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) ended it with a jumper.
Geneseo put in a three-pointer to end the quarter and headed into halftime up 34-16.
The Cardinals came within 17 points of the lead three times in the third but the Knights ended the quarter with a jumper, a three-pointer and a free throw to head into the fourth with a 52-29 advantage.
The Cardinals recorded their highest scoring quarter in the fourth with 16 points but so did the Knights with 21.
Geneseo took their largest lead of 32 points with 4:19 left in the game and the Cardinals went on an eight point bender to cut it to 24.
Sophomore forward
Frannie Merkel (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) put in a layup followed by a three-pointer, a layup and a free throw from sophomore guard/forward
Taylor Durnin (Lyon Mountain, N.Y. / Northern Adirondack).
Geneseo put up five free throws to take a 29 point edge and DePasquale drained a three to cut it to 26.
The Knights ended th game with a jumper and took the 28 point win.
DePasquale led the Cardinals with 11 points and picked up four rebounds, Durnin had 10 points and Clare recorded eight points and team high seven rebounds.
Plattsburgh State heads to New Rochelle, N.Y. Saturday, Dec. 16, to play the College of New Rochelle at 1 p.m.
