DePasquale Decks The Halls With 15 Points In Cardinal 81-46 Win Over New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.– Junior guard/forward Bella DePasquale (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) led the Plattsburgh State women's basketball team with 15 points in their 81-46 victory over the College of New Rochelle Saturday afternoon at the Monroe Athletic Complex.

Plattsburgh State improves to 3-6 overall while New Rochelle moves to 3-8.

The Cardinals took an early lead putting up 21 points in the first quarter and held New Rochelle to just nine points.

The game was tied 5-5 four minutes in when DePasquale drained her first three-pointer. New Rochelle put in a jumper and the Cardinals retaliated with an 11 point bender.

Freshman guard Thersea Quinn (Cromwell, Conn. / Cromwell) started it with a layup followed by two layups and a free throw from sophomore guard/forward Taylor Durnin (Lyon Mountain, N.Y. / Northern Adirondack), a jumper by sophomore forward Taylor Clare (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) and freshman forward Jordan Kastanis (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Roy C. Ketcham), finished it off with a layup to take a 12 point advantage.

New Rochelle cut Plattsburgh State's lead to seven points with 6:45 left in the second quarter but th Cardinals went on a nine point run to take a 16 point edge.

Freshman guard Hannah Whitney (Keene, N.Y. / Keene Central) put in a jumper and a layup, sophomore guard Brooke Benna (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) made a three-pointer and sophomore forward Frannie Merkel (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) put in a jumper.

New Rochelle drained a three and made two free throws to cut the lead to 11 but two free throws from Durnin and a three by DePasquale put the Cardinals back up by 16 points and they headed into halftime up 37-21.

The Cardinals had their highest scoring quarter in the third with 26 points and held New Rochelle to their lowest scoring quarter with only eight points.

After New Rochelle put in a layup the Cardinals went on a 14 point run starting with three three's from DePasquale. Merkel put in a jumper, guard/ forward Lauren Lawliss (Peru, N.Y. / Peru) made a free throw and junior guard Anna Thompson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Spackenkill) had a layup to take a 28 point advantage.

The Cardinals took a 35 point edge with 2:33 remaining in the third quarter and ended up heading into the final quarter ahead 63-29.

With 2:37 left in the game Plattsburgh State took their largest lead of 37 points. New Rochelle was able to put in a jumper in the final five seconds to take a 35 point loss.

DePasquale drained five three-pointers, Durnin had 14 points, Kastanis had nine points and seven rebounds, Benna had nine points and Merkel recorded eight points and a team high 10 rebounds.

Plattsburgh State is on the road Sunday in Danbury, Conn. to play Western Connecticut State for a 3 p.m. tip off.
