PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Sophomore guard
Nick DeAngelis (West Milford, N.J. / West Milford) recorded 16 points on opening night in the Plattsburgh State's men's basketball 73-66 loss to Keene State Saturday night in Memorial Hall to open their season 0-1.
A three-pointer by senior guard
Eric Mack (Roosevelt, N.Y. / Baldwin) put the Cardinals up by one in the opening minutes and the Owls went on a nine point run to take an eight point lead five minutes in.
Junior forward
Isaiah Hill (Brooklyn, N.Y. / HS for Dual Language and Asian Studies) made a jumper and a layup followed by two free throws by junior guard/forward
Chris Middleton (New York, N.Y. / Cardinal Hayes) to put the Cardinals within two points of the lead.
The Owls retaliated with a six point run and the Cardinals went on a 12 point bender to take a four point lead.
DeAngelis started it off with a layup followed by a layup by senior guard
Eli Bryant (Staten Island, N.Y./Michael J. Petrides School) then DeAngelis had two three-pointers and junior forward
Ian Howard (Queens, N.Y./Springfield Gardens) finished it off with a layup to lead 21-17.
The game was tied three times before Keene State went on another six point run. The Cardinals were able to reel the lead in to five points after a layup from Howard ended the first half and Plattsburgh State trailed 39-34.
Keene State led the entire second half, taking their largest lead of 13 points with 14 minutes remaining. The Cardinals were able to cut the lead to three with two three-pointers from Mack and Bryant with 3:51 left.
The Owls made a jumper and layup to end the game and took the seven point victory.
Plattsburgh State out-rebounded Keene State 40-32 and recorded seven blocks to their two.
Junior guard
Brandon Johnson (Greenburgh, N.Y./Woodlands) recorded 13 points, Mack had 12 and Howard led the team in rebounds with eight.
Plattsburgh State is away on Monday to play Skidmore College at 7 p.m.
