SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's basketball team was on the wrong end of an 88-62 decision against Skidmore College Monday night inside Williams Sports Center and are now 0-2 for the season.
Skidmore started strong taking an eight point lead five minutes into the game.
Eric Mack (Roosevelt, N.Y./Baldwin) cut the lead to six with a layup but a three-pointer extended their advantage to nine points.
A three-pointer by
Nick DeAngelis (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) and two free throws by
Chris Middleton (New York, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) put the Cardinals within six points of the lead with nine minutes remaining in the first half.
Skidmore went on a 10 point run to take an 18 point lead with 3:44 left and headed into halftime up 50-32.
The Thoroughbreds took a 22 point advantage with two layups to start the second but the Cardinals went on an eight point run to cut the lead to 15.
Zack Coleman (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) made an old fashioned three-pointer followed by a free throw from
Eli Bryant (Staten Island, N.Y./Michael J. Petrides School) and
Isaiah Hill (Brooklyn, N.Y./HS for Dual Language and Asian Studies) put in a jumper and a free throw.
Skidmore went on a nine point binge to take a 28 point lead halfway through the second but an eight point run by Plattsburgh State put them within 20.
DeAngelis put up a three-pointer followed by a free throw from
Adam Jaquish (Moriah, N.Y./Moriah) and DeAngelis finished it with two free throws and a layup.
The Thoroughbreds took their largest lead of 30 points after going on a ten point run with 2:45 left in the game and the Cardinals were able to cut it back by four to take a 26 point loss.
Turnovers were too much for the Cardinals as they recorded 19 and the Thoroughbreds were able to pick up 20 points off turnovers.
Skidmore shot 92 percent from the free throw line and 44.6 overall. Plattsburgh State shot 70.8 percent from the free throw line and accounted for more block with four compared to their three.
DeAngelis logged 12 points in the 13 minutes he played. Bryant had 10 points and five rebounds and Mack had nine points and six rebounds.
Plattsburgh State is home Tuesday, Nov. 28, to host St. Lawrence at 7:30 p.m.
