CORTLAND, N.Y. – The top-ranked Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team won, 8-0, against SUNY Cortland in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's West play at the Alumni Ice Arena on Saturday. The Cardinals, now winners of 12 straight games, are 18-1 overall and 12-1 in the league, while the Red Dragons are 2-16 and 1-11. Plattsburgh State's ranking is according to the latest U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) Division III national poll.
 
Plattsburgh State junior Kayla Meneghin (Clifton, N.J./The Gunnery) had two goals and one assist, while classmate Melissa Sheeran (Schaghticoke, N.Y./Millbrook School) logged one goal and two assists. Sophomore Ashley Songin (Springville, N.Y./Nichols School) scored twice, while senior Jordan Lipson (Davis, Calif./Pomfret School) and freshman Hannah Kiraly (Newport Beach, Calif./Northern Cyclones) both posted one goal and one assist. Sophomore Courtney Moriarty (Estero, Fla./Northfield Mount Hermon) scored once, senior Julia Duquette (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Buffalo Bisons U-19) dished two assists and senior Katelyn Turk (Mississauga, Ontario/Etobicoke Jr. Dolphins) and juniors Megan Crandell (Fullerton, Calif./Saint Norbert) and Lizzy Viola (Williamsville, N.Y./Buffalo Bisons U-19) each logged one helper. Sophomore Mackenzie Millen (Anchorage, Alaska/North American Hockey Academy) was 9-of-12 on faceoffs and classmate Kassi Abbott (North Billerica, Mass./Boston Shamrocks Elite U-19) made 12 saves for her second shutout in as many days.
 
Sheeran is now tied with Shannon Stewart '15 for sixth in program history in career goals (62), while also moving herself into 10th in school history in career points (122). Meneghin, meanwhile, moved past Stephanie Moberg '10 for sixth in school annals in career assists (75). Senior Melissa Ames (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsburgh Penguins Elite U-19) played her 100th career game on Saturday as well.
 
Cortland freshman Carly Weigold was 8-of-15 on faceoffs, while classmate Miranda Kolb won nine draws. Senior Kelly Farinella stopped 43 shots in net.
 
Kiraly opened the scoring at 12:10 of the first period. The Cardinals then clicked off three goals in a 6:43 span during the second stanza. Sheeran netted a goal at 8:07 followed by a Moriarty marker 51 seconds later. Meneghin capped the second-period with an unassisted goal at 14:49 to give Plattsburgh State a 4-0 lead. Abbott turned away six Red Dragon shots in the period. Songin needed only 19 seconds to find the back of the net in the third period, while Meneghin potted her second of the game at 4:28. Songin buried an unassisted tally at 15:50 and Lipson scored a power-play goal at 17:25 to cap the Cardinals' scoring.
 
Plattsburgh State continues its ECAC Women's West slate with a road game at SUNY Potsdam next Saturday at 3 p.m.
