PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team picked up its first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) win on Saturday with a 3-0 decision over the Potsdam Bears.
Cardinals leading scorer
Anissa Hartmann (Fairfax, Vt./BFA Fairfax) had quite the afternoon, picking up four points on two goals.
After a scoreless first half, Hartmann got the Cardinals on the board when teammate Caitlin Gagen (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse Minoa) sent a cross into the box for a one-time score in the 46th minute.
A handball in the Bears' 18-yard box provided Hartmann with another opportunity, sending the penalty shot deep into the right corner of the goal in the 81st minute.
The Cardinals capped off the scoring in the 86th minute when Gagen again made her way into the 18-yard box and sent a cross that found the foot of junior
Madeline Saccocio (Schenectady, N.Y./Schalmont) for the 3-0 lead.
Plattsburgh outshot Potsdam 19-5 for the contest, and handed the previously 7-1 Bears its second loss of the season.
Nichole Gibson got the win in net for the Cardinals, making one save on the day.
Plattsburgh will have one day of rest before a trek to Troy, N.Y. on Monday to battle with the RPI Engineers.
