Cardinals Slip at St. Lawrence, 3-1

CANTON, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team played its final non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon before State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play begins this coming weekend.

The Cardinals did not have the greatest offensive showing on the evening, falling to the St. Lawrence Saints 3-1.

The first half of the game belonged to the Saints as they seemed to keep the ball in the Cardinals defensive end for the majority of the stanza. Eventually St. Lawrence found an opening in the 16th minute when Katie Stames broke the scoreless tie.

Still pressuring seven minutes later, Emily Wade found the back of the net to put the Saints up 2-0.

At halftime, the Cardinals were on the wrong end of a 21-5 shot count.

In the second half of action, it was Wade again notching her second goal of the game, and pulling the Saints further out of reach of the Cardinals.

Plattsburgh State eventually found a little life in the 70' minute when Alex Benjamin (Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland) connected with Cardinals leading goal scorer Anissa Hartmann (Fairfax, Vt./BFA Fairfax) to make it a 3-1 game.

That's as far as the Cardinals would get on the afternoon, as the team now sits at 4-3 on the season.

Taylor Adams (Schenectady, N.Y./Notre Dame – Bishop Gibbons) got the start in net for Plattsburgh State, making four saves on the day.

The Cardinals will look to turn around their recent struggles, as SUNYAC conference play starts on Saturday with a visit from the Potsdam Bears at the Field House Soccer Complex. The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
