BUFFALO, N.Y. – Entering the last leg of its four game road trip, the Plattsburgh State softball team managed to split a pair of games with the Buffalo State Bengals, 1-4 and 7-5 on Monday afternoon.
Game 1: Plattsburgh State 1, Buffalo State 4
In game one, the Bengals struck first by tallying a run in the second and third innings.
It was the fourth where Plattsburgh State broke through and pushed a run across when
Dominique Zummo ripped a single and brought
Jennifer Groat home.
Buffalo State would match the Cardinals in the fourth, and took a 3-1 lead heading into the fifth.
Plattsburgh State could not find a way to convert in the remaining three innings, and would fall to the Bengals 4-1 after Buffalo State pushed one run across in the bottom of the sixth.
Zummo led the Cardinals offensively, going 2-for-2 from the plate and captured the only Cardinal RBI.

Morgan Anderson went all six innings and struck out five in the losing effort.
Game 2: Plattsburgh State 7, Buffalo State 5 (8 Inn.)
Plattsburgh State was first to get on the board in game two.
With two runners on base,
Jackie Decker singled to center field, scoring
Jennifer Groat who singled and then stole second to get into scoring position.
Then in the second,
Amanda Tantillo doubled to bring in
Kaitlyn Preiss. Following Tantillo, Groat doubled to score Tantillo and the Cardinals took a 3-0 lead.
Leading off the third, Decker doubled to left field.
With one on,
Kelsey Gage ripped a double of her own and scored Decker from second and the lead expanded to four for Plattsburgh State.
Unfortunately, the Cardinals could not hold the lead, as the Bengals scored one in the fourth, and then piled on four runs on seven hits in the fifth inning to take a 5-4 lead.
Plattsburgh State managed to tie the game in the top of the sixth on a
Dominique Zummo double.
Both teams would hold each other scoreless in the seventh inning and into extras it was Plattsburgh State who would outlast the Bengals.
In the eighth, Zummo singled through the left side and advanced to second.
Kelsey Gage would then get hit by a pitch and Plattsburgh State had two runners on for
Amy Glashoff.
Glashoff registered her only hit of the game in big fashion as she doubled to right center field and brought in both Gage and Zummo.
The Cardinals were able to hold the Bengals from scoring and hung on for a 7-5 victory.
Zummo went 4-of-7 from the plate on the day while Groat finished 5-for-8.
With the split, Plattsburgh State is now 23-13 overall and 11-5 in SUNYAC play. Buffalo State is even at 16-16, but slips to 6-8 in conference.
The Cardinals are scheduled to return home on Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader with the Middlebury Panthers.
