FREDONIA. N.Y. - Faced with a Sunday showcase and a third straight day of diamond action, the Plattsburgh State softball team responded with two wins over the Fredonia Blue Devils, 10-8 and 9-4.

Game 1: Plattsburgh 10, Fredonia 8

Fredonia jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after holding the Cardinals scoreless in the first inning.
Â
But Plattsburgh got on the board in the second inning when
Nicole Cast reached on a fielder's choice and a muffed throw by the Fredonia's catcher allowed
Kelsey Gage to score from third.
Â
With the bases loaded, it was
Amanda Tantillo who singled through the left side and brought in two Cardinals to take the lead from the Blue Devils, 3-2.

Following Tantillo,
Jennifer Groat got in on the scoring party with a base knock to center, scoring Tantillo and second baseman
Anna Fisher.
Â
Plattsburgh's second inning scoring frenzy had the Cardinals up 5-2 after two full.

In the third, the Cardinals loaded the bases with one out. Fisher drew a walk bringing
Jackie Decker home.
Â
A pitching change for Fredonia could stop
Kaitlyn Preiss who singled and brought in two runs.
Â
The Cardinals tacked on two more runs when Tantillo reached on an error and was caught on her way to second. Preiss and Fisher scored on the play and Plattsburgh took a commanding 10-2 lead.

Fredonia tallied one in the bottom of the third and one in the fourth before
Samantha Railey would enter the game for Cardinal pitcher
Morgan Anderson.

The Blue Devils were not done in the fourth, with two on and two out, Madeline Medina homered to center field, scoring three and Fredonia cut the Cardinal lead to 10-7.

Both defenses would settle in over the next few innings.

Plattsburgh was held scoreless through the seventh, while Fredonia scored one in the seventh on a Cardinal fielding error.

The Blue Devils had a two out rally working with the bases loaded, but Medina flied out to left field and the Cardinals were able to hang on for a 10-8 victory.

Plattsburgh's offense was led by its one, two and three hitters, Preiss, Tantillo and Groat, who all registered two RBI.

Game 2: Plattsburgh 9, Fredonia 4

The Cardinals got to work early in game two against Fredonia.
Kelsey Gage ripped a double down the left field line and scored
Amanda Tantillo for the 1-0 lead.

Fredonia would respond in the bottom of the frame however, to tie the game at one each.
Â
In the second, a Cardinal walk and a single opened the doors for Tantillo who would double to right center field and score two for Plattsburgh, giving the Cardinals a 3-1 edge through two full.

It was quiet through the third and fourth innings, both teams being held scoreless. Fredonia pushed one run across in the bottom of the fifth inning to narrow the Cardinal lead to one run.

Plattsburgh responded in the top of the sixth, loading the bases for
Kaitlyn Preiss to single down the left field line for two RBI. Preiss' base knock gave the Cardinals much needed insurance as they led 5-2.

Fredonia answered the Cardinals scoring outburst, forcing
Morgan Anderson to enter as relief for Plattsburgh pitcher
Katie Pitkin. Lindsey Forness doubled to bring in one run and Katelyn Dennis singled to score another with one out. At the end of six full innings the Cardinal lead had been cut to 5-4.

In the seventh, Plattsburgh State leadoff batter
Dominique Zummo doubled, and advanced to third on a muffed throw by the Blue Devil's shortstop Khee Nance.

With Zummo on third and
Kelsey Gage on second,
Jackie Decker broke through her 0-3 slump and singled to right field, scoring Zummo.
Â
Samantha Railey then singled and loaded the bases for Plattsburgh.
Â
With one out,
Amy Glashoff sent one to right field that cleared the bases and the Cardinals found themselves with a 9-4 lead that would stand final.
Â
Tantillo and Preiss each went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI while Glashoff registered two RBI and
Anna Fisher finished 3-3 in the batter's box.

With the victories the Cardinals now sit at 22-12 and 10-4 in the SUNYAC. Fredonia falls to 7-19 and 3-9 in conference.

The last leg of the Cardinals four day road trip wraps up tomorrow, the Plattsburgh visits the Buffalo State Bengals.
