Cardinals Double Golden Knights, 12-6

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team traveled to play North Country counterpart Clarkson Tuesday afternoon, defeating the Golden Knights 12-6.
 
The first half belonged to the Cardinals as they took a 7-2 lead into the locker room.
 
Attackman Brendan Damm would get the game started with a goal in the opening four minutes to put the Cardinals out front 1-0.
 
Clarkson would respond to make it 1-1 when J.R. Campbell would beat Cardinals goalie Matt Massaria.

However, Damm would get his second to put Plattsburgh State back on top by a goal, 2-1.
 
Sophomore attackman Ryan Hubbard would join in on the action to get the Cardinals up 3-1.
 
The Golden Knights reaped the benefits of a Plattsburgh State two minute non-releasable penalty, scoring on the man advantage to make it 3-2.
 
From that point on, Plattsburgh State would end the second quarter on a 4-0 run to take control of the game. Hubbard would get his second before the Cardinals would score three goals in the final 2:21.
 
Ryan Callahan ripped one to make it 5-2. Then, Pat Nash would convert a man-up goal for the sixth. Senior midfielder Matt Renko would score with 14 seconds left in the half to close the run at 7-2.
 
Clarkson would open the second half with a 3-0 run of its own to get back in the game at 7-5. Junior, Ryan St. Croix would net two of the three in that span.
 
Matt Prokesch would snap the Golden Knights run and make it 8-5 Plattsburgh State with a crank shot from the left side beating Clarkson goalie Nick Strandholm.
 
Clarkson would get another in the third as Kyle Brown scored his second of the game to cut the Plattsburgh State advantage to 8-6.
 
The Cardinals would dominate the fourth, scoring all four goals in the final 15 minutes. Hubbard would get two and Damm would tally another as both players would finish the day with hat tricks.
 
Just how the first half ended, the second half would be capped off with a goal from Renko as Plattsburgh doubled up the Golden Knights 12-6.
 
Massaria and Keith Cakoyanis each played a half for the Cardinals as they combined for 13 saves. Strandholm finished the afternoon with eight saves in the losing effort.
 
Plattsburgh State, led by senior Joey Kromer, dominated the circle, going 14-for-21 on the draw.
 
One bright spot for the Golden Knights was the man-up unit as Clarkson finished the day 4-for-6.
 
It's the second straight win for Plattsburgh State as it gets back to .500 at 2-2. Clarkson played its third game of the season and fall to 1-2.
 
The Cardinals will return to action at Eastern Connecticut State on Friday at 4 p.m. as they start their spring break road trip.
