Radisa Sinks Lakers in OT Classic, 4-3

Michael Radisa netted the game-winner in overtime against Oswego, 4-3.
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - One of the biggest Division III men's ice hockey rivalries took place Saturday night in the SUNYAC semifinals as Plattsburgh State topped Oswego State 4-3 in overtime.

Jesse Neher from Ross Sloan would break the scoreless tie eight minutes into the second period to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. Sloan carried the puck through the neutral zone before drawing two defenders. The freshman would sauce it over to Neher, who was left alone for a quick wrister past Laker goaltender Matt Zawadzki.

Oswego State would respond to tie it at 1-1 just over two minutes later. Cameron Berry would jam the puck past Cardinal goalie Spencer Finney for the goal.

The Lakers would take a 2-1 lead with 5:02 remaining in the second period. David Ferreira shot from the near post on Finney. The senior goaltender would get a piece and puck but the momentum would trickle the puck just over the line against the inside of the right post.

The Cardinals would net two straight in the third to reclaim the lead. First, Nick Belger would rip a shot from below the right slot over the glove of Zawadzki.

Senior Dillan Fox would score possibly the goal of the year when he deked an Oswego State defenseman that buckled him to the ground before sending a quick wrister by the glove of Zawadzki.

With the Cardinals clinging to a 3-2 lead, the Lakers would strike the equalizer with 4:09 left in the game. Kenny Neil roofed a shot as the puck sat in front of the crease behind a scrum of players around Finney to tie it 3-3.

For the third time this season, Plattsburgh State and Oswego State headed to overtime to settle the tie and for the third straight time, the Cardinals would light the red lamp.

Michael Radisa sent a clapper by Zawadzki 10:06 into the extra period to send the Cardinals home victorious 4-3.

Finney made 25 saves for Plattsburgh State to earn his 13th win of the season. Zawadzki corralled 33 of 37 shots in the losing effort.

Both teams would go 1-for-3 on the power play.

With the win, third ranked Plattsburgh State picks up its 20th win of the year and improve to 20-3-3. Oswego State's season comes to end as it finishes the 2015-16 season at 14-11-2.

The Cardinals advanace to the SUNYAC finals and will host SUNY Geneseo next Saturday at 7 p.m.
