PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – In what might be the last game at Memorial Hall for the Plattsburgh State women's basketball team (13-10, 7-9 SUNYAC) this season, the Cardinals defeated the SUNY Potsdam Bears (1-22, 0-16 SUNYAC), 62-31 on Wednesday night.
It was a back and forth affair to begin the contest between the Bears and Cardinals with both teams swapping buckets through the better part of the first quarter.
However Cardinal freshman
Bella DePasquale picked up right where she left off from Saturday's performance. The Ardsley, N.Y. native hit two three pointers two close out the first quarter and help set the tone for Plattsburgh State for the remainder of the game.
DePasquale didin't stop there, two more three pointers in the second quarter helped the Cardinals to a commanding 25-8 lead midway through the second stanza.
Plattsburgh State entered the intermission with a 29-16 lead over the visiting Bears.
Despite a relatively quiet first half, Cardinal senior
Devona Paul tallied 12 points in the third and fourth quarters to pace Plattsburgh State for the contest.
Paul finished with 20 points, eight rebounds and a pair of blocks, while DePasquale finished with 15 points on five three pointers.
The Cardinals had a sizable advantage from the free throw line, scoring 14 points on 93% shooting, compared to the Bears two points at the charity stripe.
Both teams took roughly the same amount of shots for the contest, but Plattsburgh State was able to convert and shoot 36% from the floor, while the Bears had less luck and posted a 24% mark on the night.
The Cardinals have a quick turnaround and are headed on the road for the last weekend of the regular season in matchups between the Brockport Golden Eagles on Friday and the Geneseo Knights on Saturday.
