Hartmann, Saccocio Lead Cardinals past Golden Knights

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team defeated the Clarkson Golden Knights 2-0 in non-conference play on Tuesday night.

The Cardinals started the game a bit slow, mix that in with a slew of foul calls for both sides, and both teams had trouble developing a groove in the early going.

Neither team found the golden opportunity in the first half, and entered the break scoreless. Clarkson held a slight 6-5 advantage in shots.

Six minutes into the second half, the Cardinals caught a break when a Clarkson defender was whistled for a handball in the 18-yard box. Plattsburgh State senior Anissa Hartmann (Fairfax, Vt./BFA Fairfax) converted on the penalty kick goal and gave the Cardinals a little life.

Plattsburgh got an insurance goal in the 61' minute when midfielder Madison Trombley (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) played a through ball to Madeline Saccocio (Schenectady, N.Y./Schalmont) who carried the ball up field and found an opportunity to bury a shot in the bottom right corner of the net.

The Cardinals outshot the Golden Knights 8-6 in the second half and held on for the two goal victory.

Plattsburgh State junior Taylor Adams (Schenectady, N.Y./Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) got the nod in net and made two saves on the night in earning the shutout.

The Cardinals are now 8-4 overall this season, and will hit the road this weekend to visit the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons on Friday and the New Paltz Hawks on Saturday.
