ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's volleyball team kicked off SUNY Oneonta's Dig Pink Invitational on Friday night with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-18) victory over Baruch College at Dewar Arena.
Plattsburgh State held a .189-to-.153 advantage in hitting percentage, but the Cardinals won decisively due largely to their performance at the service line. Plattsburgh State floored 15 service aces compared to three by Baruch.
Plattsburgh State rises to 13-16 overall with the win and closes out its season tomorrow with matches against Hartwick College (12:30 p.m.) and Elmira College (3 p.m.). Baruch drops to 11-22 overall and faces Hartwick (10 a.m.) and Oneonta (12:30 p.m.) tomorrow.
Freshman middle hitter
Dani Borunda (Salt Lake City, Utah/West) keyed the Cardinal attack with a .435 hitting percentage off 11 kills and one error in 23 total attempts, while sophomore setter
Sydney Gabriel (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) dished out 32 assists. Sophomore outside hitter
Sam Colombo (Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport) floored six service aces and defended 15 digs, while freshman defensive specialist
Bryanne Yasui (Honolulu, Hawaii/Moanalua) registered a match-high 19 digs. Borunda chipped in defensively, too, with four total blocks (one solo, three assist).
For Baruch, senior right side Akilah Meulens led the way with 11 kills, while freshman setter Stephanie Cornwell doled out 18 assists. Junior outside hitter Sophia Shahipour shored up the back-row defense with 10 digs.
