CORTLAND, N.Y. – Despite nearly forcing a deciding set, the Plattsburgh State women's volleyball team fell, 3-1 (25-16, 23-25, 25-21, 25-22), to SUNY Cortland on Friday evening in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) match at Corey Gymnasium.
The Cardinals drop to 11-15 overall (1-6 SUNYAC) with the loss, which knocked them out of the SUNYAC Tournament hunt. They finish up conference play tomorrow with matches against Buffalo State (12:30 p.m.) and SUNY Oneonta (3 p.m.). The Red Dragons rise to 16-11 overall (3-4 SUNYAC) and wrap up SUNYAC play tomorrow with matches against SUNY Geneseo (12:30 p.m.) and SUNY New Paltz (3 p.m.).
Cortland fashioned a .171 hitting percentage for the match, while Plattsburgh State hit .108. The Red Dragons held the upper hand at the service line with eight service aces to the Cardinals' five and also outgained Plattsburgh State, 6-2, in blocks.

Sam Colombo (Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport) led the Cardinals with a double-double (15 kills, 23 digs), while sophomore setter
Sydney Gabriel (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) dished out 37 assists. Freshman defensive specialist
Bryanne Yasui (Honolulu, Hawaii/Moanalua), freshman outside hitter/right side
Hunter Grotjohn (Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon) and junior defensive specialist
Jordynne Ales (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) all reinforced the back row defensively with 21, 16 and 13 digs, respectively.
For Cortland, junior middle hitter/right side Courtney Silberer led the attack with 14 kills, while junior outside hitter Nicole Silberer floored 10 kills. Junior setter Sarah Piacentini distributed 36 assists, while sophomore libero Alexandra Graff defended a team-high 18 digs.
