FREDONIA, N.Y. – Despite outshooting Fredonia by a 32-14 margin, the Plattsburgh State men's soccer team fell to the Blue Devils, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game at University Stadium.
After senior forward
Alexis Archilla (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) trimmed the deficit to one in the 79th minute off a penalty kick goal, the Cardinals continued to try to generate scoring chances, taking four shots down the stretch. The Fredonia defense kept the Plattsburgh State attack in check, however, as the Blue Devils came away with the win.

Senior forward Jimmy Ritchie put the Blue Devils on the board in the 15th minute, scoring off of passes by senior midfielder Ryan Keller and sophomore defender Noah Gittleman. Senior defender
Nick Economou (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) netted the equalizer in the 40th minute, cashing in on a feed by junior midfielder/defender
Max Delavalle (Rock Tavern, N.Y./Washingtonville), while Ritchie scored unassisted 2:27 later to hand Fredonia a 2-1 halftime advantage.
After Plattsburgh State outshot Fredonia by an 11-8 margin in the first half, the Cardinals upped their offensive pressure in the final 45 minutes, taking 21 shots to the Blue Devils' six. After four Cardinal shots to open the half, Fredonia made it a two-goal game, as Ritchie completed the hat trick with his seventh goal of the year. Keller was credited with the assist on the marker.
Plattsburgh State took 11 more shots before a foul inside the 18-yard box afforded the Cardinals a penalty kick opportunity, which Archilla converted on.
Archilla finished with nine shots (two on goal), while junior midfielder
Nicholas Laurent (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) took seven shots (two on goal). For Fredonia, Ritchie scored on three of his four shots.
Freshman goalkeeper
Patrick Feeley (Harriman, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) made two saves in the loss for Plattsburgh State in his first career start, while his counterpart, freshman Ty Bentham, turned aside five shots in the win for Fredonia.
