Men's Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision to Buffalo State

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Buffalo State scored the go-ahead goal in the 61st minute, defeating the Plattsburgh State men's soccer team, 2-1, in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) match on Friday afternoon at Coyer Field.
 
Buffalo State's sophomore midfielder Bass Sarr broke a 1-all tie in the 61st minute, as he tucked a shot inside the far post after receiving a feed from junior forward/midfielder Tristan Myers. Plattsburgh State's sophomore defender John LaTouche (Salisbury Mills, N.Y./Washingtonville) took three shots down the stretch, two of which were on goal, but the Bengal defense stood tall to help the home team claim the victory.
 
Plattsburgh State drops to 9-4-1 overall (2-3-1 SUNYAC) with the loss and looks to get back in the win column tomorrow when it visits Fredonia for a 1 p.m. match. Buffalo State rises to 9-4-1 overall (4-2-0 SUNYAC) with the win and hosts SUNY Potsdam tomorrow at 1 p.m.
 
Buffalo State opened scoring at 33:00, as junior defender Drew Braun headed in a cross from junior midfielder Sammy Wasson off a set piece. The Bengals controlled the momentum in the first half, holding an 8-1 shot margin in the first 45 minutes of play.
 
Senior forward Alexis Archilla (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) put the Cardinals on the board in the 50th minute, as he stole the ball away from the Buffalo State goalkeeper and chipped it into the open net to tie the score at 1-all.
 
The Bengals finished with an 11-5 edge in shots, while both teams took five corner kicks.
 
LaTouche keyed the Plattsburgh State attack with three shots (two on goal), while Sarr led the Buffalo State offense with four shots (three on goal).
 
Junior goalkeeper Andrew LaClaustra (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) turned aside four shots in the loss for Plattsburgh State, while senior goalkeeper William Banahene made two stops in the victory for Buffalo State.
