Cardinal Veterans Lead Plattsburgh State over Wesleyan

Springfield, Mass. – Looking for its first win in 2016, the Plattsburgh State women's basketball team bounced back in a big way defeating the Wesleyan Cardinals 68-59 in day two of the Hampton Inn West Springfield/Naismith Classic on Sunday.

After struggling in day one of the tournament, the Cardinals found their groove, shooting 43% from the floor and 20% from three point range, improving from Saturday's 26% from the floor and 12% from downtown.

Plattsburgh State was led by a trio of veterans. Senior Devona Paul had a nice 23 point, 14 rebound double-double. Senior Stephanie Linder added 16 points and five boards while graduate student Misha Green chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds.

Paul tallied a double-double in both contests over the weekend, earning her a spot on the All-Tournament team.

The Cardinals were consistent offensively, netting 17 points in the first quarter and 16 in the second to head into halftime leading 33-23. Plattsburgh managed 18 third quarter points and 17 fourth quarter points to close out the contest. The Cardinals outscored Wesleyan in every quarter except the final frame.

Chynna Bailey and Kaylie Williams paced Wesleyan with 13 and 11 points respectively. Williams added 10 rebounds to narrowly snag a double-double.

The loss puts Wesleyan to a record of 6-4, while the Cardinals, who managed a 1-1 weekend, find themselves at 6-3 on the season.

Plattsburgh State will return home this coming weekend, January 8th & 9th to host Fredonia and Buffalo State in the return of SUNYAC Play to Memorial Hall.
