Men’s Hockey Drops OT Thriller to Williams, 3-2

Cole Stallard scored his ninth goal of the season against Williams on Saturday afternoon.
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Plattsburgh State men's hockey team traveled to Massachusetts for a Saturday afternoon tilt of ranked teams against Williams, falling to the Ephs 3-2 in overtime.

Williams struck first just a mere 1:35 into the first period when David Italiano ripped a shot from the slot over the glove of Cardinals' goaltender Spencer Finney.

The Cardinals would tie the game up at 1-1 with 2:52 remaining in the first period as freshman Cole Stallard would score his ninth of the season.

Williams would regain the lead in the second period when George Hunkele found the back of the net to take a 2-1 lead with 11:31 remaining.

The Cardinals would keep the pressure up against the Ephs all afternoon, out shooting Williams 45-10.

It wouldn't be till 1:26 remaining in the game when senior Kevin Emmerling would score his team-high 10th goal to knot the game up a 2-2 and send it to overtime. Williams goaltender Michael Pinios made the initial save but the rebound bounced right to Emmerling for an easy put back.

However, right before overtime, Williams drew a penalty that carried over into the extra period and that's where they would cash in. Italiano would net his second of the game just 50 seconds into overtime.

Finney finished the day with seven saves while Pinios made 43 saves on 45 Cardinal shots.

Plattsburgh State falls to 12-3-1 after the loss while Williams bumps up to 10-3-1.

The Cardinals will travel to Morrisville on Friday to return to SUNYAC action as today marked the last day of non-conference games for Plattsburgh State. Puck drop between the Cardinals and Mustangs is scheduled for 7 p.m.
