Volleyball Falls in 2015 SUNYAC Opener against SUNY Geneseo

BUFFALO, N.Y. The scene was eerily similar to last year's SUNYAC opener for the Plattsburgh State volleyball team, as SUNY Geneseo beat them in straight sets on Friday night in its pool play opener at the Sports Arena on the campus of Buffalo State on Friday night.

Overall, the Cardinals drop to 5-7 while SUNY Geneseo improves to 7-8.

The first two sets saw Geneseo stake an early lead, which the Cardinals were unable to come back from.

While Plattsburgh was able to limit the damage and keep things close throughout the first half of the third set, trailing 21-18, the Knights pulled away by scoring the final four points of the match.

As a team, the Cardinals swung at a clip of just .059 while SUNY Geneseo hit at .303.

Senior Emily Miller totaled 6 kills to lead Plattsburgh State while freshman Sydney Gabriel had 7 digs and 16 assists.

For the Knights, Courtney Cleary collected 12 kills and three Knights reached double digits in the dig department.

The Cardinals will continue in SUNYAC pool play on Saturday when they face off against SUNY Potsdam at 12:30 p.m., before closing out the weekend series of matches against Fredonia State at 3:30 p.m.
