Hubbard and Damm Lead Cardinals' 25-4 Rout of Mount St. Mary

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Another six-goal performance was in the cards for the Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team and this time it was freshman Ryan Hubbard who accomplished the feat as the Cardinals ran wild in a 25-4 triumph over Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday afternoon at Kaplan Field.

Hubbard was one of 14 Plattsburgh State players who registered at least one point in the blowout win. The total team effort helped the Cardinals improve their 2015 mark to 5-3 and also sent the Knights' record to 3-4.

Aside from Hubbard's career day, Plattsburgh State also relied heavily on junior Brendan Damm who tallied a game-best eight points on four goals and four assists. Austin Belz netted two goals and added a pair of assists while Ryan Callahan and James Read pumped in four and three goals respectively.

At no point in the non-conference battle did the Cardinals feel threatened by the Knights as they opened up a 7-1 lead in the first period. Damm had three goals in that opening salvo while Read amassed two. Jack Felter and Mitch LaBianca concluded Plattsburgh State's flurry of scoring with goals of their own.

David Hobbs scored his first of two goals after Damm netted two to begin the game, trimming the Cardinals' lead to 2-1 before Plattsburgh State was able to pull away for good. David Hobbs also finished with two goals for the Knights.

Matt Massaria (5-3) picked up the win by making six saves and letting in just three scores in his abbreviated day.

Nothing seemed to go wrong for the Cardinals as they owned a 59-24 advantage in shots and emerged victorious on 18 of their 32 faceoffs.

On Wednesday night, the Cardinals will take part in their fourth and final neutral site contest of the regular season when they square off against NESCAC foe Bowdoin College at Keene State University. Face-off time in Keene, N.H., is scheduled for 7 p.m.
