Cardinals Hit Skid after Early Comeback, Fall to Connecticut College

RADNOR, Pa. Slow starts had haunted the Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team in their two losses thus far this season, and although they were the first team to score on Wednesday afternoon against NESCAC foe Connecticut College, the Camels scored all their goals in consecutive stretches of five and eight in a row and defeated the Cardinals for the second consecutive year, this time by a score of 13-7 at Cabrini College.

The Cardinals, who fall to 4-3 on the season, saw a three-goal performance from freshman Ryan Hubbard, with senior James Read assisting on all three goals. Read finished tied with a game-high four assists.

Hubbard got the first tally of the game 57 seconds into the game, beating the Camels' netminder Bobby Bleistein.

The remainder of the opening stanza was all Connecticut College, as it started its first of two consecutive scoring streaks, notching the next five goals of the game to take a 5-1 lead, with four of the five goals coming from different Camels.

It wasn't until 54 seconds into the second period was when the Aquebogue, N.Y., native Hubbard ended the goal drought with his second of the game and began a stretch that saw Plattsburgh State come back to tie the game up at five apiece.

Sophomore Austin Belz scored the Cardinals' third goal a man up with 4:53 remaining in the second before Hubbard got his third of the game just 24 seconds later to cut the Camels' lead to one.

Cole Andersen completed Plattsburgh State's comeback by scoring a goal with 1:52 remaining in the period.

The Camels regained the lead thanks to a goal from Tucker Mscisz, which turned out to be a game changer as it came with just four seconds remaining in the second period.

That was the beginning of Connecticut College's second streak of consecutive goals, which saw them fully take control of the game by scoring eight in a row to take a commanding 13-5 lead.

During the stretch, which lasted 19 minutes and seven seconds, Davis Kraft and Max Luing would each score three goals.

Brendan Damm got the Cardinals two goals in a span of 34 seconds with just over seven minutes remaining in the fourth, but those would be the final tallies of the game as the Camels (1-5) earned their first win of the season.

Joey Kromer tied for a game high with six ground balls and was victorious in 13 of 23 faceoff opportunities.

In the defeat, Matt Massaria made 10 saves on the afternoon, while his counterpart Bleistein totaled 14.

The Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team will be in action next on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. as it will head to Newburgh, N.Y., to face Mount Saint Mary College in a non-conference battle.
