Men’s Hockey Defeat Cortland 5-2, Lock up SUNYAC Regular Season Title

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's hockey team finished up its 2014-15 season with a road trip to Cortland beating the Red Dragons 5-2.
 
The Cardinals tallied two goals in each of the first two periods to control most of the play Saturday against the Red Dragons.

Playing in his last regular season game Alex Brenton tallied two goals included the first goal for the Cardinals to get them on the board and take a 1-0 lead over Cortland.

Cortland would respond to tie but Connor Gorman would score late in the first period to give Plattsburgh State a lead they would not relinquish.
 
In the second period Brenton would notch his second of the net along with freshman Aryton Valente to give the Cardinals a 4-1 lead through the first forty minutes.
 
Connor Toomey would score his second in as many nights to give the Cardinals there fifth goal of the night.
 
Plattsburgh State goaltender Brady Rouleau remained hot down the stretch making 23 saves on 25 shots and going 4-0-1 in his last five starts.
 
Cortland goalie Kollyn Jones was tested all night making 61 saves on a Cardinal season-high 66 shots.
 
With the win Plattsburgh State finished the season 18-5-2 and 13-2-1 in the SUNYAC.
 
With help from fellow North Country foe SUNY Potsdam who knocked off Oswego State 4-2 the Cardinals jumped past the Lakers by one point to win the SUNYAC regular season championship and lock up the No. 1 seed in the SUNYAC tournament.
 
The Cardinals will return to action Saturday in the SUNYAC semifinals at 7 p.m. in the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena playing one of the winners from Wednesday night's quarterfinal games.
