PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's hockey team wrapped its final regular home game against Utica Sunday afternoon claiming a 3-2 victory.
Much like the first meeting between the two teams on Saturday senior Shannon Stewart opened the scoring for the Cardinals sniping one top shelf over the blocker of Pioneer goalie Keria Goin.
The Cardinals would then convert on the power play at 12:10 when Bridget Balisy beat Goin with a wrister from the slot.
Utica would respond though getting on the board with just 1:16 left in the opening period.
Taylor Osowski converted for the Pioneers for her fifth goal of the season as her shot popped over Cardinal goaltender Camille Leonard landing just over the line before Leonard could twist around and knock the puck out
After a scoreless second period Balisy would tally her second power play goal of the game just 50 seconds into the third period to regain a two goal advantage making it 3-1.
Utica would remain tough though answering the Balisy goal just three minutes later to bring the Pioneers back within a goal but couldn't get over the hump to tie the game up.
Samantha Husak would shoot the puck from the right point before Louise Steele-Norton would deflect the puck in front of the net beating Leonard.
Leonard finished the game with 11 saves on 13 shots while Goin made 32 saves in the loss.
On the day two Cardinals made history as Shannon Stewart moved into fifth all-time in program history for points while Alyssa Parke became the all-time points leader among Plattsburgh State defenders.
Plattsburgh State (19-2-2, 15-2-0 ECACW) will conclude its ECAC West conference games at SUNY Potsdam on Wednesday. The Cardinals have clinched the No. 2 seed in the ECAC West and earned a first round bye in the ECAC West tournament.
