PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's ice hockey team collected its first State of University New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) weekend sweep of the season after defeating the Buffalo State Bengals 4-2 Saturday night.
For the second straight night the road team would jump out to an early lead after the Bengals lit the lamp just 1:10 into the second period to claim a 1-0 edge.
However, the Cardinals would respond for four unanswered goals including two in the second period to overpower the Bengals.
Brandon O'Quinn would net the first Cardinal goal at 12:40 only to be followed 15 seconds later by freshman
Cole Stallard's first collegiate goal as the two combined to give Plattsburgh State a 2-1 lead.
In the third period Plattsburgh State would convert a power play goal just seven seconds into a man advantage.
Dillan Fox slung a pass to
Nick Belger located in the left circle. Belger wound-up for a shot that found its way through traffic into the back of the net.
Senior,
Connor Gorman would give the Cardinals a 4-1 lead with his first of the season on an empty net goal.
With just two second left in the game and the net still empty, Jake Rosen would score the second Bengal goal making it 4-2.
Spencer Finney finished the night with 23 saves earning his second win of the year. Mike DeLaVerge made 35 saves on 38 shots for Buffalo State.
Fifth ranked, Plattsburgh State improves to 3-0-0 (2-0-0 SUNYAC) while the Bengals suffered two North Country losses this weekend and fall to 0-2-2 (0-2-1 SUNYAC).
The Cardinals will hit the road for a big weekend SUNYAC series against archrival Oswego and Cortland on Friday and Saturday respectively. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m. puck drops.
