OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's ice hockey team traveled to Oswego Friday night to play its State of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival, dropping the Lakers 5-4 in overtime.
Oswego would jump to an early 2-0 lead in the opening 70 seconds after Mitchell Herlihey and Kenny Neil would each score for the Lakers.
Plattsburgh State would get on the board 8:23 into the first when
Chris Taff scored his first of the season.
Kevin Emmerling would continue his hot start with his sixth goal in the first four games to tie the game 2-2 in the beginning of the second period.
As soon as Plattsburgh State tied the game up at 2-2, Oswego would take back a two goal advantage on an Alex Botten and Matt Galati in three minutes to close out the middle period.
Plattsburgh State would respond in the opening 26 seconds of the third period. Senior,
Connor Gorman would score his second of the year unassistsed to cut the lead back to 4-3.
Fellow senior,
Dillan Fox would get his second of the season as well 6:05 into the third to knot game at 4 apiece.
Freshman,
Pat Egan would be the hero when he would give the Cardinals their first lead of the not 1:55 into overtime to give Plattsburgh State a 5-4 win and stay unbeaten.
Spencer Finney finished with 26 saves and improved to 3-0-0 overall this season while Matt Zawadzki made 20 saves on 25 shots.
With the win No. 5 Plattsburgh State improves to a perfect 4-0-0 (3-0-0 SUNYAC). No. 11 Oswego suffers its second straight loss after losing to Cortland last weekend and fall to 1-2-1 (1-2-1 SUNYAC).
The Cardinals will travel to Cortland Saturday in hopes of staying on top of the SUNYAC standings. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
