Archilla Nets Five in Cardinals Win Over New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – It was the Alexis Archilla show in New Paltz Friday as the No. 14 ranked Plattsburgh State men's soccer team defeated the New Paltz Hawks 5-1. Archilla scored all five for the Cardinals, who have now won their second straight SUNYAC match.

Archilla wasted no time in getting Plattsburgh State on the board. Seven minutes in Ethan Votraw sent a through ball to Archilla who shot through the legs Hawks goalie John Guzzo for the score.

Nine minutes later Archilla struck again on a shot inside the right goal post on a pass from Chris Bowden.

The Hawks would get on the board in 37th minute to make it a 2-1 game. Gordon –Somers-Archer had a bicycle kick that beat Plattsburgh State goalie Mitchell Jordon.

Both New Paltz and Plattsburgh State had nine shots at halftime. The Cardinals had a slight advantage in corner kicks 6-5 at the break.

In the second half Archilla found the back of the net three more times on assists from Chris Bowden, Max Delavalle and Nelson Vetter.

Archilla entered Friday's contest leading the team in scoring with eight goals. He now has 13 for the 2015 campaign.

Cardinal goalie Mitchell Jordon made five saves in the winning effort.                             
                                       
Plattsburgh State is ranked second in the SUNYAC and will travel to face SUNY Oneonta on Saturday who is currently tops in the SUNYAC rankings. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
