Cardinals Ascend Past Golden Eagles, 3-2

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The No. 4 seeded Plattsburgh State women's soccer team advanced to the State University of New York Athletic Conference semifinals for the second-consecutive year after defeating the fifth seeded Golden Eagles, 3-2.

After a 1-1 double overtime draw the last time the team meet just a week ago, the offenses awoke for the rematch.

The Cardinals would jump out to a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute. Anissa Hartmann beat Golden Eagles goalkeeper Catherine Eliasson with a shot from inside the six yard box.

Brockport would fight back to draw even at 1-1 when Courtney netted a goal in the 29th minute.

Plattsburgh State would regain the lead, 2-1, in the 37th minute when senior, Cassidy Clavet ripped a shot past Eliasson from 25 yards out.

The Cardinals would grow the lead to 3-1 just 27 seconds into the second half when Caitlin Gagen scored her fifth goal of the season.

The Golden Eagles would claw back and make it 3-2 on Chelsea Stahl's team leading sixth goal of the season but that's as close as they would get.

Nichole Gibson finished the afternoon with four saves for Plattsburgh State while Eliasson made seven for Brockport.

The Cardinals doubled up the Golden Eagles 16-8 on shots and had a 4-1 corner kick edge.

Plattsburgh State moves to 12-5-1 and now will travel to play top-seeded Buffalo State on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
