NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team kicked off its 2015-16 season defeating Norwich 2-1 on a
Giovanna Senese goal with 16 seconds left in regulation.
The Cardinals started the game strong when senior captain
Bridget Balisy netted her first goal of the season with 1:25 left in the first period.
The Cardinals would continue to apply the pressure throughout the game, holding a 35-16 shot advantage. Though the Cadets' goaltender, Celeste Robert, stood tall keeping the game at bay 1-0.
With the game still 1-0 in the third, Norwich would find the equalizer with 7:20 left on a Nicole Goebel unassisted goal.
However, Senese would be the hero with 16 seconds left, netting her first season to give the Cardinals a 2-1 victory.
Camille Leonard picks up her first win of the season making 15 saves on 16 shots. Robert finished the game with 33 saves in the losing effort.
Plattsburgh State moves to 1-0-0 on the season and will play Adrian at 4 p.m. in the ECAC East/West Showcase championship game.
