Second Half Surge Lifts Cardinals over Kangaroos

CANTON, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's soccer team finished its regular season in winning fashion with a 2-0 victory over the SUNY Canton Kangaroos on Tuesday night.

Despite no scoring in the first half, there was plenty of opportunity for the Cardinals to get on the board. It seemed there were several through balls and crosses through the Kangaroo defense that the Cardinal offense could not seem to get a foot on.

It was in the 59th minute that Plattsburgh State broke the scoreless draw on a Fabian Chaparro goal. Cardinal forward Alexis Archilla carried the ball up through three Canton defenders before sending a through ball to a cutting Chaparro, who was able to get a low shot past Kangaroo goalie Patrick Anunziatta.

It was Chaparro again in the 86' minute finding the back of the net off a rebound from an Archilla shot. The goal sealed the deal for Plattsburgh who began to play more defensive minded late in the contest.

Chaparro played extremely well for Plattsburgh State, controlling the pace of the game and recording eight shots on top of netting his 3rd and 4th goals of the season.

Plattsburgh State outshot the Kangaroos by a margin of 24-9.

Mitchell Jordon made six saves in the winning effort, while Anunziatta collected seven stops for Canton.

The Cardinals finish the regular season with a record of 13-3-3. The Canton Kangaroos drop to 4-14 to finish their season.

The Cardinals with return to action this weekend when the host SUNY Potsdam in the SUNYAC Tournament Quarterfinal round.
