Men’s Soccer Suffers First SUNYAC Loss

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – For the first time this season the No. 11 ranked Plattsburgh State men's soccer team suffered a State University of New York Athletic Conference loss in a 1-0 decision to the SUNY Geneseo Knights on Friday.

The Cardinals could not get its offense to spark in the conference tilt. Having only recorded one shot through the first half compared to Geneseo's 14.

It was in the first half when Jaisen Clark received a through ball from Ethan Gunty that beat the Cardinal defense, and then Clark was able to beat Plattsburgh State goalie Mitchell Jordon. Clark's 18th minute goal was the deciding factor and all Geneseo needed in upsetting the Cardinals.

Jordon recorded 13 saves for Plattsburgh State, while Knights goalie Logan Calvey made two.

Geneseo outshot the Cardinals by a margin of 19-5 for the contest. However Plattsburgh State led in corner kicks 4-2.

With the loss Plattsburgh State falls to 12-2-3 (4-1-3 SUNYAC), while Geneseo improves to 8-6-3 (3-5-0 SUNYAC).

The Cardinals still remain second in the SUNYAC standings as the Brockport Golden Eagles also fell on Friday to SUNY Potsdam 2-1.

Plattsburgh State will play Brockport on Saturday; the winner will determine who controls the second spot in the SUNYAC standings and who will ultimately receive a first round bye in the playoffs.
