Cardinals Battle to Tie with Red Dragons

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – For the second game in a row the No. 23 ranked Plattsburgh State men's soccer team (8-1-2, 0-0-2 SUNYAC) endured a double overtime contest. This time finishing in a 0-0 tie with the Cortland Red Dragons (5-3-2, 0-2-1 SUNYAC) on Friday.

Although lacking in scoring, the matchup between these two SUNYAC foes brought a lot of physical and exciting play. Through halftime the Cardinals led in shots 7-5.

Plattsburgh State forward Chris Bowden perhaps had the play of the match when he ripped a shot with less than a second on the clock before halftime. Bowden's shot deflected off of a Cortland defender and over keeper Joe Brandofino. After an official discussion the goal was waived off due to the expiration of time.

Both teams had plenty of corner kick opportunities to capitalize on. Plattsburgh State totaled 11 corner kicks, while Cortland finished with nine.

Red Dragon forward Nick Tata had a great scoring chance in the second half of play. After a Red Dragon corner, the ball popped out to Tata who volleyed a hard shot right into the arms of Cardinal goalie Mitchell Jordon.

Jordon finished with four saves, while Brandofino made two.

The Cardinals dominated both overtime periods, totaling seven shots compared to the Red Dragons who didn't register a shot in bonus time.

Plattsburgh State led in shots 20-10 overall in the contest.

The Cardinals will play again on Saturday when they host Oswego State at 1 p.m.
