PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – It was double overtime for the second straight game in the Plattsburgh State Cardinals 1-0 win over the Buffalo State Bengals on Saturday afternoon.
Saturday was senior day for the Cardinals, honoring seven upper classmen who after today have combined for a record of 43-19-6 during four years at Plattsburgh State.
It was the heroics of one senior who ended the game in high fashion after tensions had reached a sky high level. Cardinal midfielder
Fabian Chaparro nailed a corner kick with 35 seconds remaining in the second overtime period that cleared the Bengal defense and bent in the back of the net past Buffalo State goalie William Banahene.
Both the Cardinals and Bengals struggled to find solid opportunities to score in the first half and early in the second half of play. However it was the Cardinals who dominated play late in the game, out shooting Buffalo State 9-0 throughout both overtime periods.

Ethan Votraw had a great opportunity from in front of the Bengal net sail over the top of the crossbar. Chaparro found himself with a great chance from inside the 18 yard box, but sent his shot high as well.
The Cardinals outshot the Bengals 19-8 for the contest. Plattsburgh State goalie
Mitchell Jordon made three saves in the winning effort, while Banahene tallied four saves in the loss.
Buffalo State lost its second straight game to fall to 9-5-2 on the year. Plattsburgh State improves to 12-1-3 on the season, and has clinched a playoff spot with the win on Saturday.
The Cardinals will be on the road next weekend when they travel to SUNY Geneseo on Friday and The College at Brockport on Saturday.
